Electric driving, but with absolutely zero charging anxiety or messy cables? In this in-depth review, I’m putting the Nissan Qashqai e-Power to the test to see if this unique powertrain truly delivers the ultimate transition between ICE and full EV!
The Nissan Qashqai (or Rogue Sport in some markets) has always been a massive sales benchmark in the compact crossover segment. However, with their proprietary e-Power technology, Nissan is doing something completely different from traditional full-hybrids.
Instead of a parallel setup where both the engine and motor drive the wheels, the Qashqai’s variable-compression 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine acts exclusively as an on-board generator. It creates electricity to power a 190 hp electric motor, which is the sole source of propulsion for the front wheels.
The result? You get the instantaneous torque, linear acceleration, and refined quietness of a pure battery-electric vehicle (BEV), but with the simplicity of filling up at a standard petrol station.
