Today Mike stops just outside Oklahoma City, OK to charge at Francis Energy — an Oklahoma company that was one of the first in the country to build out a statewide fast-charging network. The first-generation equipment has been overtaken by what the industry can do now, so Francis is doing something genuinely innovative: replacing it with Tesla Supercharger hardware, bought through Tesla’s Supercharger for Business program. Same proven gear Tesla perfected on its own network at the Buffalo plant we visited earlier in this trip, white-labeled as Francis and open to every EV. Around 100 stalls across Oklahoma so far, more than any other operator in the program.

The bigger story: proven charging hardware is now something you can just buy. Tesla will sell you one. ABB will sell you one. Electric Era will sell you a battery-buffered one. Charge point operators, convenience store chains, even a couple of coffee shops are getting into it — and that private-sector build-out is critical, because if you can’t charge, you don’t want an EV.

Mike has driven across the country in an EV every year since 2023. It has never been easier than it is right now.
