A 2022 IONIQ 5 with over 273,000 miles showed 99.7% battery health on a scanner — until the charging stats made it clear that number had been reset after dealer work. This video unpacks the data then compares real IONIQ 5 degradation to the Tesla Model Y using owner data, Hyundai’s own high-mileage study of a car driven more than 360,000 miles, and AVILOO results from over 11,000 IONIQ 5s. It also breaks down the battery pack engineering differences: pouch vs cylindrical cells, bottom cooling vs Tesla’s cooling ribbon, and the IONIQ 5’s ~700V architecture versus the Model Y’s 400V system.
