Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!
Bitterly cold day today (first true day of wintery weather at the site) but I was able to fly and get some really interesting images and video around the site and the most important and fun is the new Cybertruck shaped covering being installed over the Boring Company tunnel on the west side of the highway!
This is the tunnel Cybertrucks will be using to come from the factory, under the highway and emerge onto this side of the property to complete processing at the End-of-Line (EOL) facility before being staged at the outbound lot for shipping. I have confirmed with people I know at the factory that the design is to look like a Cybertruck once completed! 🤗📐

In the video introduction, we get a chance to hear from Eric, a Principle Engineer and the Lead Engineer for the Robotaxi program at a recent event hosted by the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley. Eric covers a lot of common questions about the Cybercab and various decisions made to create the design, and I provide a small portion of the clip and discussion with a few highlights and a longer section talking about the door design. The full video is available at the source link shown below in the sources section of this video description.
I also talk about two very generous gifts I’ve received from two of my long-term viewers, a brand-new set of Cybertruck wheel covers from viewer Waves of Life and a brand-new set of three vault storage boxes by longtime viewer TeslaCowboy1! Very cool to receive these early Christmas gifts!
Speaking of gifts, Tesla has introduced gift cards available for purchase in the Tesla Store (link in the sources section below). These vary in amounts from $50 to $420 or you can designate a custom amount. These are available directly through the Tesla App as well.
Finally, I show a brief comparison of the state of the Giga Texas site, one from 4 December 2020 and another from 4 December 2024 … 4 years of change!
Some other highlights from today include:
The mystery structure on the west side of General Assembly continues to take shape, with symmetrical concrete poured in forms and now with tall rebar suggestion this will have a fairly substantial vertical element to it. This area once had a long concrete ramp leading up to the receiving door, but that was long ago removed.
Production of both Cybertrucks and Model Ys was occurring today following a 3-day halt of Cybertruck production to allow for rework of the south end of the production line to allow newly built Cybertrucks to access the Boring Tunnel.
Speaking of castings, we still see a lot of them stored in racks and on the ground along the east side of the factory including near the multi-level parking garage, but crews were working to pick these up, place them on flatbed trucks and moving them elsewhere at the time of my drone flight.
The Boring Company crews were busy on the west side not only with the new Cybertruck-themed steel covering, but also with asphalt paving of the road and entrance to the tunnel, while other crews continued to install electrical systems in the new steel structure just south of the tunnel.
Finally, work at the electrical switchyard graded area for the new Megabuck installation was underway today, and the new large third transformer has had additional components, and a walk platform installed over the conduit on top of the slab. More work to prepare the switchyard for upgrades was underway today as well.
