This New Japanese HYDROGEN Combustion Engine Will CHANGE The Transportation Industry. Japan chose not to directly compete with Tesla in the electric vehicle (EV) market but instead decided to carve out a new market segment where they could excel. They recognized the potential of hydrogen as the most plentiful element in the universe. Thus, in 2014, they introduced the Toyota Mirai, the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Although the Mirai couldn’t directly rival Tesla’s EVs at the time, it offered unique advantages like faster refueling times and greater travel distances, all while being completely emissions-free and environmentally friendly. Despite its high price and sales being restricted to California and Japan, Toyota still sold over 20,000 units of the Mirai.
