Tesla has kicked off the 10th price change of 2023 as of last night. This latest price change affects the Tesla Model Y, Model S and Model X. The Tesla Model 3 was spared of any changes this time and remains at previous prices.
Prices for the Model Y AWD, Model Y LR and Model Y Performance have increased by $250. While seemingly a small increase, the bigger story is in the extended lead times. Just a little over a week ago, lead times were all in May, except for the LR, which was May – June. Now all variants of the Model Y are showing June – July delivery, meaning orders are starting to fill in a backlog.
Over on the Model S and Model X, we saw a $1,000 increase. This increase was for the LR and Plaid model for both Model S and Model X. Although lead times stayed the same, and you can still get one in the current month due to existing inventory available, prices still went up. But perhaps its something else that is driving the prices up.
Looking at a new note from Tesla on the order page for both the Model S and the Model X, Tesla is now offering a special finance rate of 3.99% for 72 months. At a time when many auto loans are being offered in the 7%+ range, this becomes a very large incentive. The difference in payment can be in the ballpark of $150/mo. $150/mo x 72 months comes out to $10,800, which is a lot of money.
These changes, although are becoming normal, still seem to bring in new complexities when they come. There seems to be something else added to the mix with the Model S and Model X every time we see a price change. The Model 3 and Model Y seem to be continuing on. their existing paths, which is lower price for Model 3 and Higher prices for Model Y
Finally, we also have an update for the Canada market. The Model 3 LR AWD is once again being offered in Canada, and comes in at a $10k CAD increase over the SR RWD Model 3. This $10k extra gets you a lot more range, and all wheel drive which can be a great value if you live in a snowy area.
