Car Journalist Climbs Into a Volvo EC230 and Operates a 25-Ton Excavator First Time Digging Dirt

From Torque News.

I went to a Volvo truck event in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania and got in the seat of an EC230 excavator. Not a simulator. Real machine. Real dirt.

James Smith from Volvo Construction Equipment stood next to the cab, walked me through the controls, and filmed this. I moved the boom, dropped the bucket, and dug. That is the part most car reviews never show.

Torque News covers cars, trucks, EVs, and owner reality. Sometimes that means going to the factory town, getting in the equipment, and showing what it actually feels like. The EC230 is a mid-size crawler in the 50,000-lb class with Active Control. From the cab it is smoother and more precise than it looks from the ground.
