Tesla Dog Mode allows dog owners to leave their dogs in the car without worrying about their safety and comfort. Dog Mode keeps the interior temperature constant and displays a reassuring message on the display, informing passersby that the dog is well taken care of. Thanks to this innovative feature, dog owners can now leave their dogs in the car, for example, while shopping, without fear of overheating or cold. The function is particularly useful on hot days when even a short stay in a heated car can be dangerous.

Leaving your dog in the car while running a quick errand on a hot day is a very bad idea. Five minutes in a hot car are enough for a dog to suffer a heatstroke, the animal charity Four Paws warns. Dogs can sustain brain damage or even die from the heatstroke in just 15 minutes, according to PETA. Even if the outdoor temperature is relatively low, cars can quickly heat up when parked in the sun. In such instances, panting doesn’t help a dog to reduce its body temperature, the activists say.

The climate chamber test: are dogs safe? Electric cars from Tesla, Smart and Nio also have a dog mode, designed to ensure the comfort of our four-legged friends. Using the Model Y as an example, the ADAC tested how this climate control function works. It is easier to realise in electric cars, as the air conditioning is powered by electricity from the drive battery, whereas in combustion engines the engine would have to remain running.

Global EV sales soared in February, as China’s market kept its growth pace with 76% surge. About three-quarters of the 1.2 million EVs and hybrids sold worldwide in February were delivered in China, according to Rho Motion

While Toyota says it’s committed to a future with many different efficient powertrains, the world’s largest automaker has long been accused of not taking the electric vehicle revolution seriously. The ultimate proof may be the Toyota bZ4X. While others are racing ahead with more range, better tech, EV-specific software and faster charging times, Toyota’s original modern EV offering has felt less and less competitive with each passing year.
But something unexpected has happened in recent years: The bZ4X has been a hit, perhaps in spite of itself. Sales shot up in the U.S. in 2024 amid aggressive incentive programs, and it’s picking up steam in Europe too. In mostly-electric Norway, for example, it’s now the top-selling model in the country. Evidently, people want good all-electric options from the company that pioneered electrified cars.
