We left Thomaston, Maine (70+ miles from the nearest interstate) and drove our packed F-150 Lightning Lariat Extended Range back to Charlotte — about a two-day, 2,200+ mile round trip. This video is basically the play-by-play: charging stops, route changes through New England and the I-95/I-85 corridors, a few charger headaches, and how the Lightning actually performed with a baby and all our stuff.
You’ll see stops at Whole Foods/IONNA (Portsmouth, NH), Tesla Superchargers in Southington, IONNA sites through NJ/MD/VA, a weird hotel charging situation in Belcamp (Townplace Suites) where three Tesla wall connectors tripped, and a last splash at the Concord IONNA before pulling into the driveway. Highlights: plug-and-charge worked great at IONNA sites, a Tesla stall fault that needed app activation, and swapping cables at the Rustburg V4 site to get full power. I also show the weird hotel breaker issue (likely undersized wiring/config) and the final trip numbers.
Final stat for nerds: 2,211 miles at ~1.9 mi/kWh. The Lightning handled it — not the fastest road trip ever, but very livable with a kid and the right stops. What charging network has given you the most trouble on a long trip?
