From Joe Tegtmeyer.
Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!
In the video intro, I discuss some new information and updates about the Cybercab production and equipment installation here at Giga Texas and Tesla’s Robotaxi service rollout in Austin later this summer per Lars Moravy on his recent interview with Sandy Munro.

Lars confirmed what I’ve been showing in my videos that production equipment is being installed and production lines set up for the Cybercab right now and prototypes will begin being produced this summer with initial production in the second half of 2025. Moving into 2026, production should begin to ramp up to significant levels, hopefully approaching the 5 seconds per Cybercab figure we heard at the recent Tesla All Hands call last week.
As far as the Robotaxi service rollout in Austin, Lars mentioned this would begin here in Austin this summer, btu first using the existing fleet of vehicles and not the Cybercab. This should help accelerate the rollout by not having to also be pushing forward the Cybercab production schedule. Look for mor information from Tesla about how the rollout will be accomplished and additional details in the next few months.
Finally, I discuss the upcoming Chattanooga Charge Tesla event in Tennessee this week (28 – 30 March. I have been invited to provide the Keynote address, and which is a great honor for me. I plan on discussing observations, lessons learned and details about the Agile Processes used for Tesla factory construction, the concept of Minimum Essential Capabilities Tesla employes to accelerate the start of production, and how this gives insights into hos Giga Texas will continue to evolve and change in the future. 19 Tesla Owners Groups will be participating in this event and I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of enthusiastic Tesla fans!
A few other highlights from today’s flight:
Big news on the northwest side of the highway where work has begun on what I’m hearing is the location for the new Welcome Center for Giga Texas. This is beginning with tree removal, some general earthwork and repositioned steel and other materials in the staging yard to make room for this construction. The terrain here is very rugged and will require a lot of work to remove the hills and ponds and bring in fill material to prepare this for any construction, but the work to do so may well be underway!
Caisson construction and tunnel boring continues to progress on the west side near the Colorado River where we can see concrete pipe sections are now being lifted into the caisson and then installed into the newly dug tunnel bore. This work is progressing to the south and will go under the river, connecting to another caisson which is still in the process of construction and being sunk into the ground.
The construction site for the Central Campus Support Facility (aka Cortex 2.0) shows significant progress and today we see the first of the footing excavations and ground markings for more, along with larger bored piers under construction. Rebar cage assembly continues on the east side of the construction area, indicating the installation and concrete pours for footings is expected to move along quickly.
The final thing to look for today is the large movement off site of the new vehicles (Cybertruck and the new Model Y) over the weekend. I’d estimate about 300 to 400 cars headed off for deliveries to new customers, which is a good sign for Tesla trying to make the 1st quarter deliveries as high as possible.
