Supercharger Upgrade, Window Install & Old EOL Exit Rework! 8 Nov 2024 Giga Texas Update (07:55 AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!

Low clouds and a bit of haze during my flight around the factory, but we do see several interesting developments that are part of the factory showing good signs that the internal work to increase production capacity are well along and the start of new vehicle production should begin in early 2025. We will also see continued production line upgrades, new equipment installation & interior construction for the new Cybercab continue through most of 2025 with possible first production late in 2025.

For the introduction today, I discuss three areas of changes and the implications around the site. First, I show the work at the old Model Y End-of-Line exit point on the west side of General Assembly continuing to saw cut new receiving doors, modifications of the perimeter grade beam into receiving loading platforms and addition work inside just visible with the drone images and video. This continues part of the upgrades and changes to production in this part of the factory.

In addition, I talk about the work to install the large glass panels on the west side of the south extension, and we see crews using the large yellow lifting jig which uses suction cups to lift and position the panels. About 75% of the west side has now had the glass installed, but there is an apparent issue with the window lines matching up to the old window line where the extension meets up with the original exterior wall. The new window line is twice as wide as the old window line, so I expect to see some rework of the old external walls to make this transition more seamless and visually pleasing.

Finally, I discuss the new clearing and graded area just south of the electrical switchyard. Using information we gained from a recent video documenting the installation of XAI/s Colossus datacenter, we can infer there will be similar electrical systems installed in this area. This might be another Megapack or it may be a large bank of transformers which are designed to manage and reduce/eliminate micro fluctuations of electrical energy flowing into the Cortex datacenter. There are about 200 transformers in temporary storage on the west side of the highway, and I’ll continue to watch these and look for any new filed permits to see if we can figure out what the end design will be.

A few other highlights to look for today:
Work on the E casting steel structure continues, and I’ve confirmed this is part of the processing of recycled aluminum rom scraps of the castings. Inside this area there are furnaces, but some of the material handling will take place in this new structure.

On the NE corner of the main factory roof, crews continue pulling cable off the large spools lifted on to the temporary loading platform and aligning these onto the cable racks the run along the parapet wall the full length of the main factory and to the Cortex datacenter in the south extension.

The Cathode plant cooling system appears functional without the temporary chillers and generators, and just to the north, the cleared ground section may be seeing resumed construction to increase the size of the cooling plant.

At the west End-of-Line facility supercharging station, we see for the first time V4 superchargers being installed. This may indicate upgrades to the older superchargers in this location or, in the large, graded area just to the south, an additional new supercharging station with V4 and possibly even Semi Megachargers to support the use of Tesla Semitruck for new vehicle transports.
