Switchyard Steel, Cybertunnel Structure & Cybercab Testing! 11 Dec 2024 Giga Texas Update (08:35AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!

Today was the coldest day of the season so far, with temperatures near freezing but otherwise clear skies and great lighting to look around another busy day at Giga Texas!

In the video introduction, I talk more at length about the Cybercab testing that is going on at the factory, and I show several different video clips and still images to show what this looks like. Multiple Cybercabs are in operation, and they drive around the site on the east side of the central highway, all around the main factory and even over at the battery cathode plant.

I also talk about a recent video Tesla released showing the Optimus Robt testing out in California. This was on an uneven hill with mulch showing how well the robot can traverse this kind of terrain. What was more impressive is Tesla mentioned the Robo was not using vision during this test, rather other sensors and accelerometers to be able to maintain its balance.

There is an intersection between the Cybercab and Optimus training as they are both based on the same hardware, similar AI neural nets and training systems and both use the Giga Texas Cortex supercomputer system for the training data. Pretty cool to see how rapidly both are progressing!

Finally, I talk about the ongoing final work at the Boring Company Cybertunnel west side with the Cybertruck-inspired covering structure. This is where the finished new Cybertrucks will exit after following the tunnel from the factory and under the highway enroute to the End-of-Line (EOL) facility for final processing before being shipped off to customers. I am being told Tesla wants to have the tunnel in operation next week, so we shall see if that target is met.

There are some additional highlights to look for today, including:
The electrical switchyard expansion and second Megapack site showed a lot of activity today, primarily with steel erection and assembly of one of the two new A-frame structures and other steel vertical assemblies around the new large third transformer.

Crews were also busy adding components to the 3rd transformer while other crews were entering into the underground vault just to the south of the switchyard. IN addition, crews were busy doing additional grade work on the Megapack site and doing some trenching for the underground water management system steel corrugated pipe installation

More Cybercab testing was observed today, but this time I captured video and images of it on the far southeast and south sides of the factory near the Cyberpond and the big Fork statue not eh southwest corner of the site.

As always, the black Model 3 with a similar sensor and camera system installed followed along monitoring the Cybercab and collecting data.
At the DIE shop, I did get some views inside where work is underway reconfiguring a ground slab section for new equipment. I did notice the plastic sheeting walls that were installed to protect some of the operational sections of the DIE shop were removed and a new section of scaffolding was erected.

Possibly related, but speculation right now is a new 9K Giga Press has been completed at the IDRA facility in Italy might be headed to Giga Texas. It might be coming to this location as the Casting section of the main factory is nearly full already. This is something I’ll continue to watch.

The Cybertunnel work continues to make quick progress not eh steel covering structure with horizontal beams being added around the sides of the Cybertruck-inspired structure. I am not sure, but I suspect we will see a stainless-steel skin placed on the structure for the final look, probably with lighting effects too!
