From Torque News.
Tesla officially started production of the new Model Y at its plant in Grünheide (Oder-Spree) on Monday. Since the end of January, the production lines have been gradually converted and employees have been trained on the new line, as plant manager André Thierig confirmed to rbb. Since Sunday evening, only the new Model Y has been produced. The first finished vehicles rolled off the production line on Monday morning. They are to be delivered to customers as early as next week.
The new Model Y is intended to impress customers with a revised look and an improved interior, according to the US electric car manufacturer. The adjustments were made taking into account feedback from previous Tesla owners. Tesla is also touting innovations in efficiency, comfort, safety and connectivity.
The new edition is intended to continue the success story of the Model Y, the bestseller of the Tesla brand. Around 3.5 million vehicles have already been produced worldwide, it is said. In addition to Shanghai, the changeover is now also being carried out at the only European location in Grünheide. Production in America is therefore still to follow.
