Tesla makes some of the best EV’s on the market today. A lot of the benefit of owning a Tesla over any other EV, is access to the highly reliable Tesla Supercharging network. So, when you decide to go cross country, a Tesla should be the first car on your mind to get the job done.
For over a year now, I have been planning, and dreaming of making an attempt to set a new EV Cannonball record. The existing record, held by Ryan from the Kilowatts, stands at 42:17 with a 2021 Tesla Model S LR. This record was set during the pandemic, and the lighter traffic, combined with a massive battery and fantastic charging curve, make this a record that will not be easily broken.
That all said, I believe our 2022 Tesla Model 3 LR has a chance at setting a new record. After countless simulations, I have determined what we would need to do in order to set the next record, and through some last minute changes, I was able to kick off an attempt.
To get to the Start Line at the Red Ball Parking Garage in New York City, I would first need to travel from Florida to Indiana to pick up my co-pilot. Then, I would need to take him and the car to NYC from Indianapolis. Then the next day, we could attempt a run at the record. Finally, after the Cannonball run, I would then need to make my way back from Los Angeles to Central Florida. All in, this trip will be 7,253 miles over the course of 8 days.
Part 3 is the actual Cannonball Run. We attempt to break the record, which stands at 42:17 by Ryan of The Kilowatts in a 2021 Tesla Model S LR AWD. Leaving NYC late at night on Friday, the plan is to arrive in California in the late morning, or early afternoon.
