Buick’s position in America is unique in the 21st century because most "premium" brands have either disappeared, gone mainstream, or moved up-market. But Buick? They’re still jammed between the mainstream Chevy brand and Cadillac’s higher MSRPs while Mercury was disbanded and Chrysler is all but dead.
So where does that put the plucky Buick Encore? Well, as you’d expect it’s caught between worlds with some luxury touches, but most of the parts sharing is with the Chevy Trailblazer. Buick has done their best to thread the needle, but the bottom line is really: style. Style is the reason you buy this over the Chevy and price is the reason to get the Buick over the Caddy.
So why does Buick exist? Because they sell well in China and it would be impossible to sell a brand on its "Americanness" if it didn’t also exist here… So…
