From Alex on Autos.
The midsize luxury SUV segment is finally getting some EV love from the Europeans! BMW has the iX, Mercedes now has the EQE SUV, Audi renamed the E-Tron the Q8 E-Tron, Polestar’s 3 will be out shortly and we all know a Porsche Cayenne EV is coming soon. They all join the first entry in this segment: the Model X which is available as a 2 or 3-row EV although I think the X competes more with Mercedes’ EQS than EQE. These mainline EV companies are going in different directions however with their new SUVs. BMW is going hard on CFRP construction, Mercedes is betting big on a flexible EV platform, the Polestar 3 is related to a 3-row Volvo and the Q8 E-Tron is more than a converted Q8, but less than a ground up EV design. How do they stack up? Let’s find out!
