Ford’s Chinese-built Bronco is coming to NZ, and it’s not what you think

From EVs & Beyond.

Ford has confirmed the Bronco Basecamp for New Zealand and Australia, arriving in the middle of 2027. It’s not the American body-on-frame truck. This is the Chinese-market Bronco New Energy, built by Ford’s joint-venture partner JMC in Nanchang, and it’s a range-extender EV: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that only charges the battery, with electric motors front and rear.

We got up close at Ford’s Melbourne event and pulled together everything we could find on the spec, including the numbers Ford hasn’t confirmed for our market yet.

What’s covered:

310kW and 600Nm, 0 to 100km/h in under 6 seconds
43.7kWh battery (Ford Australia says 49kWh for our spec), 100 to 220km EV range, about 900km combined
Front and rear mechanical diff locks, 220mm clearance, 600mm wading
Basecamp gear: pop-top roof, flat-fold bed, tailgate kitchen with induction cooktop, 6kW vehicle-to-load
What it will tow (Ford won’t say yet)
Pricing expectations for NZ

All figures are provisional until Ford releases local specs. We’ll have a full drive as soon as one lands.
