Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!
Happy Halloween!
In the video introduction, I discuss a recent report from the Austin Business Journal (ABJ) that cited 10 new permits (there are actually 18) that will expand Giga Texas by over 50% … this article is factually incorrect on several key topics and draw an erroneous conclusion, so I thought I’d offer the proper context.
The bottom line is the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) is the state’s primary occupational licensing agency responsible for the health and safety of all Texans. TDLR has authority to register and regulate plan reviewers and inspectors in the Elimination of Architectural Barriers program. This is not an agency that grants construction permits and their role is towards the end of the construction process when the project starts to be used for its intended purpose.
The ABJ article makes the incorrect assumption that the TDLR Permits it found was for new construction and that this would greatly increase the overall size of Giga Texas. This is a factually incorrect error and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what TDLR permits are for. In the intro, I show you the actual permits and the locations all over the major part of the Giga Texas site where these are related to.
That being said, what you should take away (and the correct reading of what the TDLR permits are indicating) is a very positive look at what Tesla will be able to accomplish in the first half of 2025. This includes the addition of two new vehicles based on the Model Y and Model 3, using most of the existing production lines. This also includes the refreshed Model Y and later in 2025, the production of the “Cybercab”, another new product.
In addition, this will allow additional production ramping of the Cybertruck, additional capacity to make 4680 Batteries, and possibly setting up the production lines for the Optimus Robot. Finally, the Cortex supercomputer datacenter will scale up to the full capacity in 2025 … A very bullish outlook!

Here are some additional highlights from today:
The Boring Company crews have completed installing the tunnel road surface panels & are now preparing the W exit area for the final facing structures & driveways.
On the west side material staging yard, I was able to see crews doing more work preparing parts of the new stamping press ready for movement for installation. The large equipment section we saw in my previous video being cleaned and prepped has now been covered with a brown tarp. Nearby, more deliveries of wood crated equipment have been made, so this staging location is rapidly filling up!
On the south side of the Cyberpond, the “Fork in the Road” sculpture display appears to be getting curbing forms installed along the edge of River Road. This may indicate we’ll see a concrete slab and walkways installed around the large Fork.
There is a new large construction area being graded just south of the multi-level parking garage today. This appears to be getting prepared for a possible new construction project, but precisely what that is I am not sure at present. I do have some ideas, but no permits so I’ll withhold my speculation until I get additional information.
On the roof of the casting machine section, we see the new access enclosure (possibly a staircase) well under construction, with wall and roof panels installed on the steel structure and with what appears to be a double door on the west side of the enclosure.
