Today is the day, Tesla Cybertruck deliveries begin! With 22 vehicles being delivered at Giga Texas, handed over by Elon Musk himself, this day marks the beginning of customer Cybertrucks on the roads of America.
After 4 long years, many of us have been waiting patiently, grasping for any bit of detail we can about the Cybertruck and speculating on final specs. Well, we now have everything we need to know about the truck, and there’s some good news, and there’s some bad news.
For starters, the Cybertruck is being delivered in 3 configurations, with 2 in 2024, and the 3rd configuration in 2025. The Long Range and the Cyberbeast truck will begin deliveries at the beginning of the year, and the rear wheel drive Cybertruck will come starting in 2025.
The Long Range Cybertruck comes with 340 miles of estimated range, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, and a price of $79,990. The Cyberbeast, or Try-Motor Cybertruck, will come with 320 miles of estimated range, 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, and the steep price of $99,990.
In addition, Tesla quietly announced a Range Extender, which is essentially a battery pack add on that takes up about 1/3 of the bed of the truck and increases the range of the Long Range Cybertruck to 470+ and the Cyberbeast Tri Motor to 440+ miles of range. This add on must be completed at a local service center, and it comes in at $16,000.
Although these prices and specs are nowhere near where I expected them to land, we finally have the details. I am certainly disappointed that the "affordable" truck from 2019 is not what is being delivered here in 2023. The range is just ok, and the loss of the bed and increase of $16k makes the extended range a tough pill to swallow.
Based on the high end cloths and hand purses of the selected first deliveries, it would seem that deeper pockets will get their truck first, which given the price tag, may be automatically the case anyways.
