Hello and welcome to this very special episode as we unveil another groundbreaking vehicle from China’s BYD, the Yang Wang U8. This impressive plug-in hybrid SUV will blow your mind with some very extraordinary features or capabilities.
First of all, this is not just any plug-in hybrid—the Yang Wang U8 is a beast. This beast of a vehicle is capable of performing a tank turn, spinning around on its axis for improved mobility. It can even float on and drive in rivers, although the manufacturer does not suggest one do this too often—for obvious reasons—but it simply goes on to say oodles for the quality of this vehicle.
The U8 is a series hybrid with its petrol engine working strictly as a generator and never really driving the wheels. It offers some 85-90 miles on electricity alone and stretches out to some 600 miles using its petrol reserves. Powered by a lithium-ion phosphate battery and with some total power output near 1,220 horsepower, this SUV is at once both very powerful and efficient. There’s a motor powering each wheel, allowing the U8 to pull off its special off-road tricks and impressive dexterity.
But that is not all. The Yang Wang U8 also comes fitted with a karaoke machine blurting out in-car entertainment, making this high-tech credential list a little quirky.
Now, turn your attention toward its sibling, Yang Wang U9—an all-electric supercar. This supercar is launched with nearly 1,300 horsepower, going from 0-100 km/h in just about 2 seconds and hitting top speeds of 186 miles per hour. It’s the 800V platform, equipped with four BYD in-wheel electric motors that produce 322 horsepower combined. The U9 can do some impressive tank turns and takes up very fast charging—as quick as recharging from 30% to 80% within 10 minutes if by two 250 kW chargers.
Knowing this, the U9’s battery capacity reaches 80 kWh, with a maximum range of about 280 miles in ideal conditions, but it shines with Desus X intelligent body control that will hold this vehicle steady on acceleration, cornering, and braking. This advanced suspension can even lift the car off of the ground on its own to really show that BYD is, indeed, at the forefront of boundary-setting technology.
Inside, the U9 combines apparent simplicity with a hi-tech sheen. There’s a really slick, minimalistic design with responsive screens, plus clever touches such as this protected phone holder. Its interior materials are sumptuous and assist in creating a sense of premium-ness.
Yang Wang U8 and U9 represent the fast development pace that BYD has gained in the automotive field. Not prototypes but actual production cars, these U8 and U9 are huge accomplishments by the company within such a short period of time. Exactly with innovative technology and price ranges, the U8 and U9 take up the challenge in the field of automobiles.
