First Ever Electric Jet Ski – Taiga Orca Carbon Fiber Jet Ski (The Tesla of Jet Ski’s)

This week I had the amazing opportunity to hand over my Tesla Model Y in exchange for the first ever Electric Jet Ski. This Jet Ski EV is made by Taiga and the model I rode was the first Orca Carbon.

The Taiga Orca is the first ever all electric jet ski on the market. Having officially started customer deliveries this year, the Orca is about to make some major waves in the recreational water sports space. This new Electric PWC comes in 3 different trims, the Carbon, Performance and Sport.

The Carbon, which is the first model to launch, comes with a 120 kW motor, 160 hp, top speed around 100 km/hr (65 MPH) and an estimated range of 45 km. The Performance matches the same specs except for the range, which comes in at 40 km. Finally, the newest and most affordable model, the Sport, comes with a 67 kW motor, and will match that 40-45 km rated range.

Fully charging the Orca can be done in 1 of 3 ways. You can plug this into a standard 120v outlet, which will fully charge the Orca in 14 hours, you can use a level 2 charger, which will allow up to 6.6 kW charge rate, giving you a full charge in as little as 3.5 hours. Finally, in Beta, is the ability to DC fast charge, which is rated at 50 kW charge rate. This should be good for a full charge in well under an hour.

Like all electric modes of transportation, the Orca delivers instant torque. There is no waiting for a motor to rev up, no gas, no delays. Much in the same way as traditional jet craft, the Orca is propelled by a jet motor that can operate in both forward and reverse, although the reverse does not allow for steering.

With a fully connected UI, the Orca can receive software updates over the air, be diagnosed from remote locations, and can bring on new capabilities in the future, like DC fast charging. With a 2 up configuration, the Orca allows you to take someone along for the unforgettable fun an Electric Jet Ski offers.

Although performance is fantastic, and comes with obvious maintenance benefits over traditional ICE Jet Ski’s it also comes with that all too familiar EV premium. The top tier Orca weighs in at north of $26k. The Performance comes in closer to $20k and the Sport wraps up the offering at about $18k.

These are much higher costs up front for a Jet Ski, but they also do not come with the wear and maintenance as a gas powered equivalent does. You can also leave these for months at a time and jump right on them without worrying about getting the fluids moving or concerning yourself with anti-cease.
