Looking for AWD with a price tag that won’t break the bank? There’s a Subaru for that, but it’s not the Crosstrek, it’s the Impreza. This generation around you might call the Impreza a "Crosstrek based hatchback" rather than the Crosstrek being a lifted Impreza. The reason is simple: the Crosstrek outsells the "hatch" version by, well, tons. Fortunately the Impreza shopper benefits from the same roomy cabin and the same AWD system and engines. Really the only differences are the lack of body cladding, which I appreciate, the lower ride height and the smaller price tag.
