The Current Tesla “Magic Dock” Supercharger Experience

From News Coulomb.

This is a clip from a recent live stream with Steve @plugandplayEV You can view the entire stream here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgXrpWXTQzE&t=34s

In this clip, Steve and I discuss our experiences as non-Tesla EV drivers using the Tesla "Magic Dock" Superchargers. I personally have less experience with these Superchargers than Steve because so far, Tesla has only opened two sites in California. New York, on the other hand, has nine Magic Dock Supercharger sites, and Steve has used a number of them while driving his Hyundai Ioniq 5.

What we’ve experienced is a similar level of functionality and service to what we’ve seen from other charging providers. While Steve has noted that the Magic Dock coverage in New York is good enough that he could technically cross the state in his Ioniq 5 using only Superchargers, the charging speed and reliability are not good enough yet for him to take that trip.

For me in California, the Magic Dock worked fine with a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV; however, I did have some issues setting up the app and payment. The two Magic Dock Supercharger sites that are currently open are not convenient or ideal for travel, and they do not open up any new travel corridors. Hopefully, Tesla can open some of their sites in more remote areas with less public charging coverage.
