Tunnel Interior Paint, Prod Line & Electrical System Upgrades! 4 Nov 2024 Giga Texas Update(06:55AM)

From Joe Tegtmeyer.

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car!

Glad to be back flying at Giga Texas despite the rains, winds & ow clouds that blanketed the site today. We are definitely in fall here in Texas now!

Lots of interesting developments over the past 5 days since my last flight, including big changes at the Boring Tunnel, the Cortex Computer Datacenter cooling plant, a revision of the former Model Y factory exit point & a new drive path to the tunnel, casting receiving dock structure, baghouse plant and electrical switchyard expansion!

In the video introduction, I talk briefly about my trip to the Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, Texas late last week to attend the Earthlight Foundation New Worlds Conference! I was fortunate to get a tour of some of the sites at JCS including the Astronaut training facility, Rocket Park where one of the only remaining flight ready Saturn V rockets is on permanent display, and the Space Center Museum where there is the Space Shuttle Independence on top of the 747 Shuttle transport aircraft, and many interesting displays of hardware and memorabilia from the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Shuttle and other eras of NASA.

The conference itself covered a wide range of topics, from the "Overview Effect" many Astronauts get when viewing the earth from space, to an ongoing competition between 4 primary companies to replace the International Space Station, to the challenges of space travel that we will need to overcome, and space policy, funding & more. I’ll cover this in a separate video, but I thought you might find interesting some of what I was doing since my last Giga Texas video.

I also talk about the boring company’s progress in the west tunnel exit, including the completion of the road surface panel installation, white staining/painting of the interior of the tunnel, installation of the lighting system and additional work on the exterior of the tunnel in preparation for it becoming operational towards the end of the year.

In addition, I briefly talk about the electrical upgrades underway at Giga Texas to support the huge energy needs of the Cortex Supercomputer datacenter. As of today, the computer system is operational as well as the cooling plant, but at about 40% of the eventual capability.

Some additional highlights from today include:

The Model Y exit point from the factory, which was the temporary end-of-line (EOL) for the Model Y’s just north of the west main entrance area is being further dismantled and reconfigured internally. This work began over the summer with the operational use of the new EOL facility on the west side of the highway.

Now, we see one of the two ramps has been removed, the perimeter grade bean where the ramp was located has been removed and construction is visible inside the opening into the factory. This is part of the rework being done inside to prepare the factory for expanded production in 2025.

Related to this change, further south near the current exit point for the Cybertrucks form the factory, we see the opening & driveway into the factory is getting gravel mix and more work just inside this area. The purpose of this driveway into the factory is for Model Y’s to enter and then access the boring company tunnel to the west outbound lot. The new pathways for the Model Y’s, and future products will take advantage of the tunnel.

The covered structure over the east casting machine section receiving doors is nearly completed, with all roofing and wall decking installed, the valley drain completed. Only some finishing work on the concrete loading areas and some equipment installation inside this new structure remains.
