EVgo Simultaneous Charging + DCFC Analysis: Volvo XC40 Recharge and Hyundai IONIQ 5

From Plug and Play EV.

Join us for another edition of "Quick Charge", in which we explore the DC fast charging profile, strengths and limitations of the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge.

We cover three separate sessions to highlight the pros and cons of DCFC in the current XC40 Recharge model, then look at some of the improvements that Volvo has in store for the 2024 model year.

0:00 – Start
0:24 – Introduction
1:01 – A note on our L2 charging
1:43 – A lunch stop with EVolve NY/Shell Recharge
3:01 – Simultaneous Fast Charging with EVgo
4:51 – IONIQ 5 vs. XC40 Recharge DCFC
6:22 – XC40’s DCFC Achilles Heel
7:49 – Upgrades for 2024 XC40 Recharge
9:30 – DCFC Summary

The main session also gave us the opportunity to test out EVgo’s simultaneous charging feature on a Delta 350kW station in New York state, which did yield some unexpected moments when comparing to our Hyundai IONIQ 5. Nonetheless, the end result that you’d probably expect comparing an 800V to 400V platform with a similar size battery pack did come to pass.

All of that squeeze into just about 10 minutes, so we hope you enjoy the digest and find the information useful. If so, consider fueling the channel with a cup of coffee via Ko-Fi so that we can make more!
