Electricity costs vary throughout the day based on demand and energy usage. EVgo’s charging network also experiences different levels of congestion throughout the day and week. All customers in California pay for their charging by the kilowatt-hour (kWh), with Time of Use (TOU) pricing applied. That means drivers pay for the energy delivered to their EV and not by the time spent at the charger. Drivers will see lower prices when they plug in during Early Bird Hours (12am-8am) and Off-Peak Hours (8am-4pm and 9pm-12am), and higher prices during On-Peak Hours (4pm-9pm). With TOU pricing, EVgo hopes to encourage drivers who charge during On-Peak Hours to charge during daytime hours when renewable energy generation is more plentiful.
