The best innovations in the automotive industry have often come from the motor racing world, thanks to the way in which motor racing tends to push both drivers and cars to their absolute limits.

Traditionally, that’s meant internal combustion engine cars have been able to benefit from race series like Formula 1, NASCAR and much more – but now, in the world of Formula E and Extreme E, companies that have helped bring about both race series are turning their attention to refining race-built technology for everyday use in the real world.

Which is why we recently headed to Oxford, UK to visit WAE Technologies to learn about it’s brand new Elysia battery technology.

With a pedigree that can trace its roots back to Frank Williams and his famous Formula 1 race team, WAE Technology has just unveiled a new, smarter way to get lithium-ion battery packs working harder, charging faster, and lasting longer – all without any changes to existing battery cell chemistry.

How is it done? We’re about to find out.
